Synopsis
My report on the 2002 artworld back-to-back-back odyssey across Central Europe, which started in Kassel for Okwui Enwezor's Documenta (my first and still one of my favorites), stopped in the Black Forest for the reveal of the mysterious Pisces collection (a large part of which only two years later was auctioned by Phillips) and ended at Art Basel. It was not an easy economic moment and many collectors stayed away, because as Carlos Urroz, director of Helga de Alvear, noted, “Attending an art fair when you can’t buy is pure masochism for a collector.”
