Synopsis
Designed by the Institute for Applied Autonomy, a group of defense-industry engineers disillusioned with their day jobs, the GraffitiWriter robot merged military-grade robotics with street-level dissent, turning sidewalks into platforms for political messaging. The massive remote-controlled dot-matrix printer on wheels was built with the technical spec that it had to move fast enough to escape sprinting police. To date, though, that had proven unnecessary. "It’s very weird, but people assume that if you have a robot, you must at least have permission,” said one IAA member, summing up the project's sly genius.
