Synopsis
My review of the "The Amber Room" - a book-length investigation into the fate of a legendary amber-walled room from St. Petersburg's Catherine Palace. During World War II, the marvel disappeared. Twice.
The Amber Room resurfaced in Koenigsberg, Germany, which then became Kalingrad in Russia. It was intact when the Russians took over the city, and the authors conclude that Russia's looting Red Army Brigades had destroyed or stolen the amber, naturally a theory Moscow has strongly decried despite solid evidence backing it.
